I find medicine to be a beautiful intersection of empathy and rigorous science. There are few other careers where these two qualities (that are often mutually exclusive) come to mean so much. I try to always remember that despite our comfort in dealing with medicine every day, we as practitioners are still taking care of people. People who are sick and scared and who are not used to dealing with the kinds of situations that we find “routine.” I strive to treat each patient with a high degree of individuality, not only when it comes to their medical issues but also on an interpersonal level. I find great pleasure in practicing medicine the way it’s been intended. My favorite movie is “The Usual Suspects” because it has the greatest plot twist in movie history.
