Behavioral Health

SRMC Behavioral Health Services promotes mental well-being with evidence-based practices, creativity, and empathy.

Our Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioners, Kristen Rose and Kelsey Watchorn, provides psychotherapy to help patients address a variety of mental health challenges. Therapy is an opportunity for patients to identify their strengths, explore how to use those strengths to address difficulties in their lives, and develop new ways of coping.

Our Behavioral Health team at SRMC diagnoses and treats anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, depression, grief and loss, mood disorders, trauma, PTSD, eating disorders, and many more. Later in the year, we will offer Boys Town Pediatric Telepsychiatry.

Senior Social Hour

Wednesdays 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Senior Social Hour is a peer support group that focuses on fun and artwork. This group is typically for anyone 65 years or older, but we will consider age in other circumstances. We have snacks, check ins, and art projects. No need to be an artist: it is the process not the end result that matters. Due to the limited space available, we currently have a seating limit; however, we are willing to adjust the day/time if necessary. Call 308.254.8736 for more information.

Community Trainings

Kristen Rose and Kelsey Watchorn are eager to train community members on any of the following classes. While Kristen has taught several agriculture organizations and a plethora of classes on recognizing eating disorders, they are both eager to develop further trainings based on the community’s needs and their ability to educate. In order to thoroughly prepare and secure a meeting place and time, please request a community training six weeks in advance. To check their availability, call 308.254.8736.

Changing Our Mental and Emotional Trajectory (COMET™):

Recognizing that mental health functions on a spectrum, COMET™ teaches people how to intervene when they encounter someone who is in a “vulnerable space” and how to help shift the person’s mental health trajectory back to a place of wellness instead of proceeding toward a mental health crisis. COMET™ is a strong complement to other strategies to reduce the suffering resulting from high levels of stress in rural, agricultural communities.

Question Persuade Refer (QPR):

As someone who may be in the best possible position to prevent a suicide, you will find that QPR is designed to help you save a life. Become a gatekeeper: anyone can recognize a crisis and detect warning signs when someone is contemplating suicide.

Just breathe: Stress and skills for more intentional living:

Everyone encounters stressful situations and adversity, and learning how to manage your stress in those situations is essential to lead a more balanced and healthier life. Through a variety of methods, this training will help participants identify the cause(s) of stress, understand how self-regulation can prevent and reduce stress, and recognize the connection between self-regulation and intentional living.

Meet one of the newest member of the Behavioral Health team! Therapy Dog, Carl Gustav Jung joined Behavioral Health in November 2023, and has seen clients improve rapidly. As a therapy dog, Gus brings joy to each client when he runs to greet them or snuggles up and naps on their shoes. Kristen, Kelsey, and ShaNawn love seeing patients and Walk-In Clinic staff smile at Gus’ bubbly and fun personality when he comes to the clinic each day. This adorable Australian Shepherd is soon to be certified through the AKC’s Canine Good Citizens (CGC) test!
