Specialty Services

Audiology

Did you know that hearing loss is the third most common chronic physical condition in the United States? Hearing loss is twice as prevalent as diabetes or cancer! It can be easy to take our hearing for granted, but if you think you are having difficulty hearing, don’t miss out on another conversation. Age, genetics, exposure to loud noise, certain medications, and lifestyles can all cause hearing loss.

At SRMC, helping to identify and manage hearing loss is a collaborative effort. Working closely together with your primary provider, our Audiologist and Ears, Nose, and Throat physician strive to determine the cause of hearing loss and plan next steps to limit further loss through treatment. In some cases, hearing aids or procedures may be necessary.

Cardiology

SRMC is proud to offer exceptional cardiology services in the Nebraska panhandle with the collaboration of healthcare professionals from UCHealth. Cardiology entails the study of diseases and conditions affecting the cardiovascular system, including the heart and blood vessels. Our esteemed professionals specialize in diagnosing and treating a broad spectrum of cardiovascular ailments, such as heart rhythm disorders, coronary artery disease, heart attacks, defects, infections, and numerous others. Additionally, our cardiologists specialize in electrophysiology and cardiovascular disease.

Electrophysiology is the study of electrical activity of your heart to diagnose the source of irregular heartbeats and help determine a suitable treatment. Electrophysiologists use their training to diagnose and treat a number of conditions, including:

Chronic kidney disease can lead to health complications, such as anemia, osteoporosis, a weakened immune system, or an irregular heartbeat. It is important to take charge of your health ahead of time and seek a nephrologist who can treat and manage any kidney issues you may have.

Neurology

Neurology is the study and treatment of disorders of the nervous system: brain, spinal cord, and nerves. At SRMC, we strive to treat various neurological disorders with the help of our highly trained neurologist. Dr. Hakumat Kakkar utilizes stimulators and Electromyographies (EMGs) to help diagnose and treat neurological disorders. EMGs are a diagnostic procedure that assesses the health of muscles and motor neurons. The results of an EMG can reveal nerve or muscle disfunction or problems with nerve-to-muscle signal transmission and stimulators.  A provider referral is required.

Another Neurology service we provide is Electroencephalography (EEG). EEG is a non-invasive test that records electrical activity in the brain, typically through electrodes placed on the scalp. EEG is a valuable tool in the arsenal of neurology services, providing important insights into the functioning of the brain and helping guide clinical management decisions for patients with neurological disorders.

They use a variety of tests and treatments for these issues. Various disorders and diseases primarily affect the blood. Dr. Soriano is trained in anemia and bone marrow disorders for hematology.

Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Vision, the most dominant of our senses, plays a critical role in every facet and stage of our lives. We take vision for granted, but without vision, we struggle to learn, to walk, to read, to participate in school, and to work. Vision impairment occurs when an eye condition affects the visual system and its vision functions. Everyone, if they live long enough, will experience at least one eye condition in their lifetime that will require appropriate care. Globally, at least 2.2 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment. In at least 1 billion – or almost half – of these cases, vision impairment could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed.

Dr. Michael Solomon is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist and a board-certified refractive eye surgeon. Dr. Solomon treats cataracts and glaucoma.
